TechSmith's Camtasia

With all of the changes that have occured in the past 6 months one of the biggest is providing different methods of providing information to our clients and employees. While you may have become a master of using online video conferencing like Zoom and Teams, being able to create presentations that are more on-demand may be something that you want to have available to share.

You have probably dabbled with PowerPoint presentations and while they can be good live making them into on-demand content may be more desirable. A product that I like to use is Camtasia by TechSmith. This product is used by thousands of presenters, trainers and teachers to capture screens, present ideas and automate/capture your presentation.

Update: Video Creation

imageI have been putting together a couple quick videos this month and demonstrate certain types of functions in different applications. These come typically to me from clients who run up against the wall when trying to accomplish a task in the program that they are using. This is typically done by using a program that we sell called Camtasia that is manufactured by TechSmith. This program has been around for quite a few years, and is very useful in creating quick documentaries on how to use your computer. It works by capturing both of voiceover and a screen capture of your computer. So basically what you do, is a quick demo of of the program, feature or function of the program that you want to demonstrate and describe it as though the person was right there beside you. You can then go back in and edit the video to exclude long pauses, retakes and other sections that you don't want to be part of your video presentation.

Another great feature of this program is its integration with Microsoft's PowerPoint program to be able to go through a PowerPoint presentation and record that presentation with both your narration and the speed that you go through the slides. This makes it very easy for you to put together a presentation for client that you can deliver to them when you can't physically get in front of them.

The program works on both Apple and Windows-based computers and has been widely used in educational situations for years. It is a great enhancement to their getting your point across and keeping everybody on the same page. The price is quite reasonable at only $299. If you need more than one copy the first break is at five licenses. Discounts are also available for education and government pricing.

TechSmith Snagit–Graphics Screen Grab Software

imageSnagit has been a part of my tool box of applications that I use for many years. I am not sure how I would work if I didn’t have it available to me. Some of the features that I like include scrolling back through screen grabs to reuse an image, editing and image either by cropping or creating special effects. This is great for inserting an image into a quote or a document quickly with little work.

TechSmith’s library of tutorials are especially helpful to get you up and running or get a quick refresher on how a particular part of the program works. They have both written and video tutorials to draw on for all of their programs so don’t be shy accessing them since they are free for your use.  http://www.techsmith.com/tutorial-snagit-current.html

Camtasia Studio Tutorial: Stitching Essentials

Camtasia Studio ImageStitching, new in Camtasia Studio 8.1, fixes a problem we'd been hearing about from quite a few customers. Previously, when you made cuts from a video to get rid of unwanted footage, you'd end up with two distinct video clips. Two clips that act independently from one another could be useful in some cases, but if you wanted to add in animations or visual properties that carried over, you'd have to duplicate quite a bit of work.

Now, when you make cuts from your videos, the two clips that result will be automatically stitched together. Stitched clips are treated as one piece of media. That means your transitions will flow seamlessly across the timeline making your videos even more stellar.

Watch the full tutorial to see what else you can do with stitching.

Boyne CityBoyne City, a small town located in northern Michigan, has made a commitment to digital learning. With the city's 1:1 iPad Initiative, every student in the district has access to an iPad. But once students get the tablets into their hands, what should they do with them? Having the technology is one thing, but harnessing it to enhance learning experience is quite another.

Three teachers from Boyne City have been implementing some big ideas to do exactly that.

Check out the customer story to see how Erin Mastin, Rebecca Wildman, and Erin Luckhardt are using Ask3 to help students take charge of their learning.

Is it time to move from Jing to Snagit?

imageI have been using Jing (Pro) ever since TechSmith introduce this product and I have been enamored with it forever! However, today I got notification that Jing Pro has only one more year to live and will no longer be a part of the TechSmith product line. It was suggested that I take a look at Snagit as a suitable replacement and much to my chagrin I am finding that I probably should have done so a long time ago. Jing was obviously a testing product for the features that have been added to Snagit to encompass all of the things that Jing did but on steroids. I have inserted TechSmith’s overview of Snagit 11 below for you to take a quick look. I know that I am going to make full use of this product just like I did with Jing and I recommend it to anyone who is doing sales, marketing, support, etc… Better yet I would also look at the very good companion product, Camtasia Studio if you are planning on doing any video editing work. It is simple and straight forward and allows you to put a quick flair onto any video project.
