Business OneDrive Storage change

The size of storage subscriptions, however, just significantly shrank, at least for OneDrive users. Microsoft no longer options unlimited cloud storage as part of OneDrive for Business plans. Instead, the default limit is 1TB per user.

There are some options for up to 5TB of storage per user, but those are limited to certain customers. In order to qualify, an organization needs to have five or more users with a OneDrive for Business subscription, specifically plan 2. Even then, there is an initial limit of 1TB per user, but admins can increase that to 5TB per user.

"In response to customer demand, Microsoft has streamlined the purchasing process for customers who use OneDrive for Business standalone plans,” said Microsoft to TechRadar. “Customers currently on these plans will still be able to add seats and renew their license.”

Microsoft's statement explains that organizations with a current OneDrive for Business (Plan 2) subscription can continue to keep that option. Those organizations will even be able to add seats and renew their license. The change appears to only affect new subscribers, who will no longer be able to sign up for a plan with unlimited cloud storage.

TechRadar spotted that the change occurred at some point between July 14 and July 28 this year. Microsoft's website for OneDrive for Business subscriptions now only lists OneDrive for Business (Plan 1). There are also Microsoft 365 subscriptions that include cloud storage, but those are also limited to 1TB per user.

Fall Updates coming to Microsoft OneDrive

One of the issues I have with my Microsoft Surface Book is that after I had a Surface Pro with 64GB storage on it I figured that I would be fine with the Surface Book with 256GB of storage as long as I am very careful with what I store on it. It didn’t take me long to add a USB flash memory to give me a little more headroom on the my device.

If you are using OneDrive for off-device storage, you either have to have the sync working, meaning you have the files on your devices and in the cloud, or just in the cloud. The Fall release of OneDrive with the Windows 10 Creators Update is going to provide the ability to control this a little better. With this update you will be able to set on-demand access to your cloud files so that you are really using the Cloud storage as just that, Cloud Storage. This way, you only need to bring down the document you are currently working on and then you can set the on-demand designation for it to be off-loaded from your local drive and put back into the cloud.

Of course you can’t do this yet, but you have the alternative now to pick and choose the folders that you want synced on you local drive currently. But taking this to the file level and having it automatically being returned to the cloud for you when you are through viewing or editing the document is going to be a nice feature.

Here’s a quick overview video showing this feature and how it works from Windows Central:

Having an issue with OneDrive or SharePoint?

imageEmail a take a quick look at this new version of OneDrive which my guys are telling me that it has stabilized synchronization to both one drive shares and SharePoint libraries out of Office 365. I am all for doing just that and I will be looking forward to getting this installed on all of my workstations and notebooks to see how well it begins a synchronization between all of those devices and are SharePoint document libraries. The link above will take you to Microsoft's blog article that discusses this new update and you may want to view this article to see exactly how to install the new client. Good luck!

Microsoft starts downgrading OneDrive's free storage to 5GB

image

Engadget’s article reminding us that Microsoft’s free 10gb upgrade to handle your photos is being rolled back. If you didn’t take advantage of opting out of losing the storage space you will need to find an alternate source.

There are lots of other sources but if you want more space in many cases you will need to take out your wallet to get it.

How to keep up productivity with cloud computing.

imageWhile the article that I would appoint you to is actually “How to keep up productivity when freelancing, with cloud computing", I think we can all take bits and pieces of this and apply them to our daily work life as well. You don't have to be a freelance worker to see some of the benefits that you would have from leveraging cloud computing components. I think this is a great article to take note of to see how many of the new millennial members of our society probably be working in the future. They are more attuned to using the devices to be connected to each other and it is not a far reach make as part of their work life as well. This is a great lesson on how to be able to be working from anywhere, anytime that suits you. Something as I get older is part of my wish list. I'd love to hear what your thoughts are on this.

Another OneDrive Issue!

Until I read this article from our friends over at https://winsupersite.com I didn’t realize that this feature ever existed. This is something that I have used in DropBox when I was using a my old surfacepro2 that had limited storage space on its drive. Now that I see what they are talking about, yeah! I want it back, too! Hopefully they will bring something back that will useable in this manner and help you to manage the files the files that you put on OneDrive. The link to this article is below:
