Toshiba M780 Tablet Notebook

If you are like me and want just about everything, including the kitchen sink, in one device The Toshiba Portégé® M780 Tablet PC may be just the thing imagefor you. Most tablet PC’s that I have worked with in the past seem to have a sluggishness in their response to the stylus. Sporting one of Intel’s new i7 mobile processors you will see absolutely no hesitation in either to reaction to the M780’s stylus or to your touch. That’s right! This is a multi-touch device as well and you will find yourself using you finger over and over to make menu choice on your device. If you have a finger, you always have it available, and we humans sure like to touch and point so it’s a natural thing to whip out your finger and point your way to doing different functions.

With the new touchscreen Atom-based processor tablets that are out/coming out, you don’t have the same responsiveness that you see with this machine but of course they don’t cost anywhere as much either. This system’s price, Starting at $1,799, is not in the entry level pricing for a notebook, but if you are a professional who needs power and function this product certainly fits the bill.

Let’s look at some of the other features of this product. Security is always an issue with a mobile device and this one sports multiple layers to protect access to your precious data. It begins with a fingerprint reader that will help thwart unwanted access. The Trusted Platform Module offers a high-level encryption to protect your data, and Computrace™ aids recovery in case of theft. All of these features are designed to protect your investment.

is there really multi-touch support for new win7 gestures? or when you say multi-touch are you referring to dual-input (stylus and touch), but not necessarily capacitive multi-touch like offered with the fujitsu lifebook t900?

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. For some reason I wasn't prompted your message came in.
This is a good question, and one I can't answerdefinitively yet. I did not try myself and the info I was getting from the product literature and other comments on the Internet. Sorry for not trying that particular feature out. The literature has since been changed to cut out this reference but still makes it sound like may have it. It's a bit ambiguous. I'll be getting my hands on the unit again in a few days and will report back to you what I actually find out.

There are so many references on the Internet discussing the multi-touch so I'm not sure what I will find out.

But believe me, this system's responsiveness to touch and handwriting is truely amazing. I love it alot.

I was able to work again with the M780 again this week so here it what I found out. It appears to handle gesture movement but does not incorporate multi-touch display resizing. A disappointment. But I still love the responsiveness of this machine. They are hard to find in distribution at the moment but the i3 and i5 versions are available.
