Office 2010 RTM became available on Friday
Since we have the MSDN Software Action Pack we were able to download the Office 2010 RTM (Release to Manufacturing) on Friday. I am very excited to get this onto my office system to see if all of the Beta problems that I was running into with the integration of some of our primary applications are resolved. More on this on Monday after I have it in place there.
You need to uninstall of your Beta Office Applications before attempting to install the RTM version. If you forget, don’t worry, Microsoft’s Office installation will remind you. The rest is pretty simple. I normally suggest installing all of the Office applications so if this what you want to do as well you will need to choose a Custom Installation and then when it shows the drop down hierarchy, drop the first level and pick Run all from My Computer.
I was pleasantly surprised that all of my newly created Outlook Quick Steps that I made last week and discussed in this Blog. However it did have to reindex all my messages, contacts, tasks and notes for quick search. I’m not sure how long that took, but 24 hours later it seemed to have everything reindexed. It maintained all of my accounts in Outlook as well so I didn’t have to go back in and setup my connections back to the office.
One of my main concerns was whether the compatibility issues I was having with merging data from some of our main accounting and service applications was going to be resolved with final release and it definite is. What a relief! So far I am very pleased with what I am finding and I will continue to write about new features as I find them so be sure to stop back often to see what I find.
