Initial Impressions of Office 2010

I am starting a list of the the things I love and hate about the new release Office that is coming out and even though I know that I am working with Beta version, most of the product seems to be working fine with just a few quirks I have to live with. There are some integration issues with some of the products I for use daily basis, but I believe that these will be worked out very quickly once the final release arrives.

I should know better than to put a beta product on a production machine (my office machine), but there are so many great new features in the office product line that make me so much more productive that was hard not to make the leap.

image Let's start with OneNote, and its integration with if Internet Explorer. There are two features that come to mind quickly, probably because they are two functions that work together while you are browsing on the Internet.  Once you have installed Office 2010, you will have two new white columns on the menu bar that have the N icon that represent the OneNote integration with Internet Explorer.  One eicomm will have an arrow on it and the other will have the chain symbol.  The icon with the arrow the current web page or the area that you have selected on the web page to OneNote.  We did have this ability in Office 2007, but you're also able to select exactly where you want to know to be placed.  A dialog box will display showing you the structure of your OneNote notebook file structure and you have the ability to choose what section you want to drop the new note into even down to inserting a selection onto a note page that is already present in your OneNote notebook.  When I am putting together a use your resolve notes that pertain to a single idea or customer, the ability of having my notes on a single notepage without having to copy and paste the items that I want together helps me to become that much more productive.

image The second icon pulls up a side note that is linked to the original webpage so that you can take notes that are linked directly to the web page.  So if I am doing research on the subject is very easy for me to pull up the page, purse to OneNote sidebar link icon, and to begin making my notes about what I am reading.  This helps me to collect information about article subjects veryquickly having both the page that I am getting information from displayed as well as my note page. This is a specially convenient with a widescreen monitors that are now available giving you more left to right Realestate to work with.  When you close the side note window in and explore goes back to its original screen display automatically.
