WePad? Is it everything the iPad isn’t?

The WePad is an 11.6 inch tablet computer that is similar to the iPad but based on the Android operating system. It is not yet available but is scheduled for initial release in Germany (Created by the German company Neofonie), in the May 2010 timeframe. So why is this new entry so interesting? Well… First size, it has an 11.6 inch display (1366 x 768), a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor, GMA 3150 graphics, 1.3MP webcam, SIM card slot, two USB ports, flack card reader and a UMTS modem, Flash/Adobe Air support, access to the WePad AppStore and Google’s own Android Marketplace, multi-tasking support, Bluetooth 2.1, Wi-Fi, optional GPS, ambient light & motion sensor and an internal microfan to keep things cool. Con: If it needs a fan sounds like it might be running hot and the question of noise from the comes to mind as well. Only a 6 hour battery life? We don’t have any more information about what kind of workload this battery life is measured against. This is something that I would like to have increased. The screen seems a little cluttered for me as well.
What don’t we know? I haven’t seen anywhere what kind of price point we are looking at. There still isn’t a stylus so it is not going to support handwriting recognition but I’m not convinced yet that this is necessary. I just like that as a feature that I could show off. With and Atom processor it should more than powerful enough to process this kind of feature though. This will be one to keep our eyes on over the next couple of months.
