Logitech MK 710: a replacement wireless keyboard and mouse

image I have fallen in love with my Logitech MK700 wireless mouse and keyboard and new with the introduction of the replacement in this series I am excited about this new product. I know, excited might be too strong a term but I really like two major improvements to the MK7XX design, Logitech has bundled their tiny proprietary USB receiver which limits the limits the possibility of damage that can occur to your computer or the dongle by inadvertently knocking into and and either destroying the dongle or the USB connection itself. The new design is very low profile as imageshown in the image to the right.

The second improvement with this package is that Logitech is claiming the you will only need the one set of batteries with this keyboard and mouse for the entire life of the product. They consider 3 years to be the life of the product, and if the claim is true you can easily justify the difference in price between this keyboard and mouse combo package and other low priced combination packages in replacement battery costs alone.

imageThe keyboard key design has an Incurve feature that is contoured to fit your fingertips. There is an integrated LCD dashboard to display the status of your Caps, Scroll and Num Locks as well as the battery life indicator. The companion software on the MK700 gives you a lot of programming control over the earlier model and I am sure that you will have the same capabilities with the new and improved model as well. Access to this control is though the system tray as you can see to the right.

The software mainly addresses control of mouse functionality. It is great to customize your mouse to the way that you are using it. Also, embedded in the software is a reporting imagemechanism that tells you how much battery life you have left in the mouse and keyboard as wells as specific controls to customize all the FN functions on you function keys. You can spend hours playing here to get things set just the way you want and then promptly forgetting what you set. You also have full media control for standard functions as well and in my environment a must have additional dedicated key for bringing up the calculator. Boy do I miss the old keyboard that used to have the built in CALC Key that turned the number pad into a calculator with a little LCD above it to show the results. This is the next best thing though.

I already recommend the MK700 to all my customers that want to go wireless and when this product comes out in April I will be recommending it as well. Priced at $99.99 if you are considering going wireless with your keyboard and mouse this will be a good choice.

The mouse on this duo is terrible, definately not up to industry standards. It can't read almost all surfaces. Since it's wireless I figured you could use it anywhere, not the case, you must use it on either a mouse pad or a dark colored non shiny surface. Stupid I could buy a twenty dollar mouse and it works on all surfaces. in fact I am using a super cheap 10 year old microsoft 20 dollar wireless mouse instead of my 120 dollar keyboard and mouse combo. Also the shape of the keys on the keyboard throw you off a little when you start using it. Seriously one of the worst combos I have ever purchased!!!!

1 STAR if that

Are you talking about the logitech USB connector? If so, then contact Logitech directly to see if you can get a replacement. If you broke the USB connector on the motherboard that is another issue. Let me know which you are talking about.
