Voice4Mail - Speak your mail! - Send voice messages to ANYBODY

image What a neat program. This iPhone app allows you to select a contact, enter a quick subject line and hit the record message to begin your recording. You can record up to a two minute message. Pros: Your message is sent to Voice4Mail’s server so it is not being stored locally, this gives me the notion that you could also use this to take audio notes that you mail back to your self.

If the person you are sending the message to also has Voice4Mail running on their iPhone they will receive the message in their Voice4Mail mail box and be able to play it right out of this application. If  you are using Wi-Fi here is a great way to not use your minutes and to still get the spoken word out there.

Tablet PC’s – living in a world of on demand access

I just finished reading an article from CNET NEWS entitled, “Why an Apple tablet will succeed” and I think that I really want to see a device that is a sleek thin device, with a touch screen between 10-12 inches, that allows me to access online media and web applications. I want pen (scribble to text) recognition, graphic drawing capabilities, and complete wireless internet access, whether it is through Wifi, WiMax or Cell connectivity. I want it light, 2lbs or less, and very indestructible. It would be nice to be able to use it as a phone and also have a video camera capability for video conferencing as well.

Now, I must confess that I have been for a long time, closet Tablet PC promoter, and this new direction that Apple might be taking is very intriguing to me. It reminds me of my youth reading SciFi books that have their main characters connecting and interacting with tablet like devices with each other and to the world around them. I find that the way that I use my netbook is a  perfect fit for the way that I would use a tablet as well. I am looking forward to what the next 12 months brings to the Tablet Market.

vlingo-Voice App for your iPhone

image This little application has very good voice recognition and I can see that I could very easily get carried away using it for updating Facebook or Twitter if I am not careful. The first drawback that I have seen with it is that I have more than one Twitter account and you can only enter one account for  Facebook and one account for Twitter. The interface is simple and straight forward. You can say your voice commands for what you want to do from the home tab or you can click on the function you want to do and then tell the app what you want it to do.

imageWhat can you do?  You have four basic functions that vlingo can interact with. Search – pick the search engine that you want to use in your setup between Google and Yahoo. Press the Search Tab and hold down the press and speak button and say the term you want to search on. Release the button and it will begin the search. The same basic scenario works for Google Map Search, Phone Dialer and Social. Social is a multi step process because you need to tell vlingo which social site you want to update as well.

vlingo is available for the Blackberry, Nokia and for Windows Mobile (this is in beta and you have to sign up to become a beta tester) as well. Pretty Nifty. See a video demo of the product click here.

Study: Facebook use fuels jealousy, hurts relationships

I thought twice, maybe even three times before I posted this. It always amazes me that people want to look everywhere but within for the solutions to the problems in their lives.  So….

This study shows that people need to stop looking for others to supply all of their self worth, and to start looking looking within themselves for this reassurance. If your relationship isn’t strong enough with your significant other to be a driving force in your relationship than maybe you are in the wrong relationship. To blame a software program for causing a relationship problem is the same as blaming any kind of distraction as the cause of the breakdown in your relationship instead of going to the source of the problem, you. You have the sole control of your side of all of your relationships. You can’t control anyone else but yourself, so do your best, put your best foot forward. and lead by example. Remember the Golden Rule. Life can be good if you work on making it so. So….

Restrictions on OpSys for Netbooks Defined

Steve Ballmer confirmed that there will be a limit on what the classification will be for Netbooks that can come preinstalled with Windows Starter Edition. OEM Manufacturers have a very tight margin on the low end units so it is very important to them to be able to available as low of a priced Operating System that they can manage to get from Microsoft.

Steve Ballmer stated a recent Microsoft-hosted day with the Wall Street analysts: "Our license tells you what a Netbook is,". "Our license says it's got to have a super-small screen, which means it probably has a super-small keyboard, and it has to have a certain processor and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah."

image

The graphic above shows you the hardware requirements of what Microsoft machine limitations that qualifies a Netbook to use either of the two lower priced operating systems. The Windows XP Home will actually be priced less than Windows 7 Starter Edition (a premium $30-$40 price point).

We have already seen several machines axed by Microsoft’s Software Police. Dell Inspiron Mini 12 (12 inch screen), MSI Wind U115 (both SSD and Standard Harddrive combined in the System), Archos 10 (500GB HDD and 2GB RAM), Raon Everun Note (Dual-core processor) and Dell Mini 0 (2GB RAM). All of these models are hearing the Death Nell.

You will be able to upgrade your Windows 7 Starter Edition to more capable versions of Windows 7 as you wish but Microsoft’s whole guideline is based on their trying to get the right operating system on the right machine to give the user the best experience. I have been running Windows 7 Ultimate on a 2GB upgraded Acer Aspire One Netbook with no problems what so ever. The video streaming could be a little better but that is the only thing that I could ask for on this level of a machine.

Pandora

image What a great app for the iPhone. My wife are sitting around the pool enjoying our weekend vacation time, listening to one of our favorite artists and are discovering new artists whose musical sounds are very similar come across the station. I’m using my iPhone to wirelessly (WiFi) connect to our home network and pipe the music through our portable speakers. How nice!  Simple, straight forward and bet of all, FREE!
