Sophos DNS Protection is now available

Sophos is announced in mid June that they have added DNS Protection as part of their Xstream Protection to licensed Firewall customers.

Sophos DNS Protection is a valuable service that enhances network security. Here’s what you get:

  • Malicious Domain Blocking: Sophos DNS Protection instantly blocks access to unsafe and unwanted domains across all ports, protocols, and applications. It covers both managed and unmanaged devices, providing an extra layer of security.
  • Real-Time Threat Intelligence: Backed by SophosLabs’ AI-powered threat intelligence, it offers real-time protection from high-risk domains. When a malicious domain is detected, this information is instantly shared across all customers, ensuring immediate protection for everyone1.
  • Easy Deployment: You can set up Sophos DNS Protection in just a few minutes. It’s a cloud-based service managed via Sophos Central.
  • Policy Controls: You can configure policies to control domain categories or specific domain lists. This allows you to tailor the protection to your organization’s needs.
  • Visibility and Reporting: The service provides comprehensive dashboarding and reporting, giving you insights into the domains visited from your network.
  • Integration: Sophos DNS Protection’s log data and intelligence are shared with other Sophos products, enhancing overall threat detection and response.

Remember, it’s available at no extra charge for Sophos Firewall customers with the Xstream Protection bundle. So, it’s a win-win in terms of security and cost savings!

What’s New in SFOS v19.5 MR1

Support for New 5G Module for XGS 116(w), 126(w), 136(w)
We’re introducing a 5G cellular module for all XGS 116, 126, and 136 models (including w-models) which have a modular expansion bay.
The new global module enables 5G cellular network connections using the 5G Sub-6 bands, with download speeds of up to 4.5 Gbps and upload speeds of up to 660 Mbps (this may vary by carrier and region). The module also provides automatic fallback to 3G and 4G LTE (Cat-20) networks.
Our optional slot-in module becomes a fully supported, fully integrated part of the appliance, managed from your firewall console. This provides significantly better compatibility and interoperability than competitive external solutions.
We deliver the module with four cable-connected antennas to allow optimal coverage and performance.

Are you handling Credit Card Payments? Let us help you become PCI compliant!

While we are all working towards making our businesses run as smoothly and safely as possible, one of things you may have overlooked is making sure you client’s financial information is as safe and secure as possible.

Credit Card information is a critical piece of information that you need to be aware of protecting. It is not hard to do so but you need to put the right protection in place to help you do this.

We find many small businesses still using simple home routers or just your Internet Provider’s modem for your connection to the Internet. That is just not the right piece of equipment to do this. You need to call one of our security experts to provide suggestions on how you can easily create a secure environment for your business.

We suggest Sophos Security products primarily to do this for you. The first line of defense is to put in place a business class firewall that will provide the following protection:

  • ·         Intrusion Protection for those trying to break into your network and detection of outbound traffic that needs to be secure and managed
  • ·         Control address, port, protocol and specific application traffic and behavior patterns.
  • ·         Perform NAT (Network Address Translation)
  • ·         Detect and block spoofed IP Addresses
  • ·         Inspect data traffic for malicious activities

While this is a good first step in creating a protected environment, it is not the only one you need.

Again, contact one of our security specialists that can provide you with a complete analysis and recommendation for your business.

Sophos Conference Part 1 (Firewall Technology)

There are quite a few exciting items coming up in the next few months. When Version 17 of the XG firewall software is released we will be gaining closer parity with the current SG v9.x software products. The one disappointing piece of news was that we won’t be seeing a migration program to convert SG to XG. However, we may get a package to do part of the migration of just the objects, but not the policies. This would be a start but it wasn’t the full migration package we had hoped for.

ASG V7 will end-of-life soon

imageSophos

Upgrade before end December 2012

Important: Version 7 of the Astaro Security Gateway (ASG) will end-of-life on 31 December 2012. On this date Sophos will stop all security patching, pattern updates, firmware updates and technical support for this version. If you still have an active installation of ASG V7 you should move to a newer version before this date.

Your migration options
You should migrate to the latest stable version of Sophos UTM 9 or ASG V8, both of which continue to receive security fixes and deliver ongoing protection for your company. For a complete list of current options, pricing, and any other questions you have please contact us at Computer Connections.

You can also take advantage of our special, limited-time opportunity to get a new appliance model at a discounted price through our Hardware Refresh Program! Speak to us to learn more.

Hardware
Hardware appliances running V7.510+ can use the option on the Up2Date menu to one-touch-upgrade to ASG V8. This brings you to the V8 platform automatically but requires further Up2Dates after the migration is complete to be on the latest version of V8.

UTM 9 is the successor to ASG V8 and includes a number of new features including the HTML 5 VPN portal and the option to add Endpoint protection. You cannot upgrade directly to this platform from ASG V7 via a one-touch operation. To move from ASG V7 to UTM 9 you will need to install UTM 9 and then restore a backup file. While your legacy configuration should import successfully, for best results you should first restore your backup into ASG V8 and then take a backup from that platform into UTM 9.

Software
Installations running an ASG V7 software appliance on their own hardware need to install an updated version and then restore a backup file of their configuration. This will apply all your settings except for log files and on-box reports. Logs can be exported in bulk from within the WebAdmin beforehand. Reports will begin anew on your updated platform as existing reports will be removed.

For further information or help upgrading please call us at 724-838-7526 and we will get one of our technical support team assigned to assist you.
